- Make the text smaller or larger, up to twice its starting size. The middle A brings it back to the default size.
- Use capital letters
- Show the story in uppercase if those are the letters your child recognizes best. The wording stays the same.
- More spacing
- Add space between letters, lines and paragraphs when the page feels crowded.
- Highlight words
- On English stories, turn the current word’s yellow highlight and its sentence’s soft shading on or off.
- Follow narration
- Let the page move with an English story. Scrolling yourself pauses following; press the button again to resume it.
- Repeat sentence
- Hear the current sentence again using the button or your keyboard. On English stories, you can also tap a sentence in the text to play from there.
Take the audio away from the screen
Free stories play here on the website, where Play again restarts the same story only when you ask. A story you create comes with an MP3 download: open the saved file in your own audio app for listening without an internet connection.

A reading resource for families and classrooms
For a shared reading session, open a story before you begin, check the volume, and choose a text size everyone can see. You can pause the audio for a question or take turns reading a paragraph. There is no app to install or student account to create.
Teachers, schools and libraries are welcome to link directly to a free story or to this guide. The public stories are examples created and narrated with Purrytale's AI story tools; they are separate from families' private generated stories.
Questions about listening and reading along
Are the stories free, without signing up?
Yes. The public story library is free to listen to and read, with no account needed. Creating a new personalized audio story is a separate feature that requires an account and credits.
Which languages have word-by-word highlighting?
Word highlighting, Follow narration and sentence replay are currently available on English stories. Other library languages include audio, full text, playback speed and the same text size, capital-letter and spacing controls.
Can we read without playing the audio?
Yes. The full text is on each story page, and audio only starts when you press play or tap a timed sentence. You can read aloud yourself and adjust the text without starting the narration.
Will the next story remember our reading settings?
Yes, when browser storage is available. Text size, capital letters, spacing, highlighting and your Follow narration preference are saved in the browser you are using. They do not transfer to another device, and clearing browser data removes them.
