How to put a personalized story on a Yoto card
Create a narrated story with your child’s name, download it as an MP3 and add it to a Yoto Make Your Own card — step by step.
A Yoto Make Your Own card can play your own audio, which means you can turn a personalized story made for your child into a physical card they can choose and play themselves.
With Purrytale, you can create a narrated story using your child’s name, interests and your own story idea, download it as an MP3, and then add that audio to a Yoto Make Your Own card.
Here’s how.
What you need
You’ll need:
- a Yoto Player or Yoto Mini
- a Yoto Make Your Own card
- the Yoto app
- an MP3 story you own or have permission to use
If you create a story with Purrytale, you can download the finished narrated story as an MP3 and you own the copyrights for the story, Purrytale gives all story copyrights to you.
1. Create a personalized story for your child
Start by creating the story you want your child to hear.
With Purrytale, you can include details such as:
- your child’s name
- their age
- a favourite animal or character
- something they are interested in
- where the adventure should happen
- whether you want an adventurous, gentle or sleepy bedtime story
For example:
“A gentle bedtime story for Mia, age 4, about Mia and a tiny fox who find a glowing moonflower in the forest.”
Purrytale turns your idea into a narrated children’s story.
When it is ready, download the MP3 to your phone or computer.
2. Create a Yoto playlist
Open the Make Your Own section in Yoto and create a new playlist.
If your MP3 is on your phone, you can start from the Make Your Own area in the Yoto app. If it is on your computer, you can use Yoto’s Make Your Own website.
Create a new playlist and upload the Purrytale MP3.
Give the playlist a name your child will recognize, such as:
Mia and the Moonflower
You can also choose artwork or a pixel icon for the track.
3. Link the playlist to a Yoto Make Your Own card
Once the playlist appears in your Yoto library:
- Open the playlist.
- Open the menu.
- Choose Link to a Card.
- Insert a Make Your Own card into your Yoto Player.
- Confirm that you want to link the playlist.
Once Yoto confirms the link, remove the card and insert it again.
Your personalized story should now play from the card.
Can you put your own stories on a Yoto card?
Yes. Yoto Make Your Own cards are designed to work with your own audio, including recordings and supported audio files such as MP3s.
That makes them useful for bedtime stories, messages from family members and personalized audiobooks.
Can I make a Yoto story using my child’s name?
Yes.
One way is to record the story yourself. Another is to create a personalized narrated story first and then add the finished MP3 to a Make Your Own card.
With Purrytale, you can describe the story you want and include your child’s name directly in the idea.
For example:
“A story for Theo about exploring space with his dog Pepper.”
The resulting audiobook can then be downloaded and added to Yoto.
Can I change the story on a Make Your Own card later?
Yes. Yoto Make Your Own cards can be reused.
That means one card could hold a favourite bedtime story today and be replaced with a completely different adventure later.
You could even make new personalized stories as your child’s interests change.
Dinosaurs this month. Space next month. A sleepy story about their favourite stuffed rabbit after that.
Can I create a bedtime story for Yoto?
Yes.
Purrytale includes calmer story options intended for bedtime. You can choose a gentle or deliberately sleepy style and describe anything you would prefer not to appear in the story.
Once the story is generated, download the MP3 and add it to your Yoto Make Your Own playlist.
How long can a Yoto Make Your Own story be?
Yoto currently allows up to 100 tracks on a Make Your Own card, with a maximum of one hour for an individual track.
A normal children’s bedtime story therefore fits comfortably on a card.
A simple personalized Yoto bedtime routine
One nice way to use personalized stories is to let your child choose what tonight’s story should be about earlier in the day.
They might ask for:
“Me, a dragon and Grandma going to the moon.”
Create the story, download it, put it on their Yoto card, and that evening they can insert the card themselves.
The player stays the familiar part of the bedtime routine. The story can change whenever you want it to.
